We accept donations to our site too. At the moment they help cover costs, but we hope to use them to fund support for our writers in the future. I know some places have paid staff, but any mag accepting 'tip jar' payments is either covering costs or sharing with writers. I don't get why Stripe think that is a bad thing? Better than taking money for plastic tat, surely? Better than taking money for AI stories, or stolen content - seems weird that sharing money with contributors is deemed bad.
As a frequent visitor to this humor site, I find this post shockingly unfunny. ;-)
Perhaps this is some kind of anti-spammer crackdown? If so, any automated deletion process must be accompanied by a robust way for innocent users to get out of its way, either before or after the hammer lands.
I’m a Stripe user too (but I also accept payments via Venmo, Zelle, and PayPal: hey Duotrope, alternatives are easy these days…) so I will reach out to them about this myself via customer service.
Is there any particular way to contact Stripe if a person does not have an account with them? If you’ve found one, post it here— if I find one I’ll add it in another comment too.

Weird indeed.
Well this sucks and is worrisome. Never easy, doing something worthwhile, is it?
No, and you have to ask, why is that so?
